In SoD1 we had The Black Fever. We all know it and we all know how dangerous it could be for our band of survivors. Now in SoD2 we have The Blood Plague, this still appears very dangerous and very fatal if we don't have the syringe to cure or suppress it (unconfirmed what the syringe actually does)

Theory: What if The Blood Plague was actually in SoD1? What if what we knew as The Black Fever was actually the same illness prior to finding a vaccine? What if it was named The Blood Plague after the vaccine was created when scientists understood how it affected its victims? (in the blood)

It's interesting to imagine/theorize that maybe there were Blood Plague Zombies running around in SoD1 the whole time and maybe they were spreading The Blood Plague (Black Fever).

There is the argument... "but blood plague zombies have red eyes" But the same could be said about Ferals. Ferals didn't have any eyes in SoD1, and now in SoD2 the Ferals have blue eyes.

Post your thoughts, do you think The Black Fever and The Blood Plague could be the same illness?

It's a plausible enough hypothesis that the two are related. While the events surrounding the outbreak are very much intentionally mysterious, what little concrete information we've got shows the disease spreads somehow and not necessarily by bite.

I would suggest that Black Fever and the Blood Plague are one and the same. If you look at the SoD Story mode, there were several possibilities for the cause. Was it something contained within the 'plane crash'? Was it 'water borne' e.g. all the dead bodies up at the reservoir? We do know that the Army were doing some research up at the Fairground. We know that the term 'Black Fever' was used.

Yes the thing that seems to confuse things is the zombies in SoD2 have 'red eyes'. Maybe the disease has mutated in some way. Hopefully the new game will give us some clues:)

I wonder if the important people and data that Dog House One collected during the Lifeline playthroughs were what made the vaccine possible?

It would be satisfying to know that our successful efforts in Lifeline meant something for SoD2 lol

Yes that would be a very good link between the two games, along with seeing Lily and some of the other SoD1 main characters:)

That would be nice. I would even be satisfied with coming across a radio broadcast sequence that Lily and/or the rest of the SoD1 cast recorded prior to their deaths. Something to help other survivors who might pick up the signal. It would be slightly depressing (due to knowing they're dead) but it would be a nice little tidbit, especially if the broadcast provided something useful for our SoD2 group.

Considering the last we see of them is when they blow the wall and head into Danforth, I'd say yeah it's pretty likely they died soon after.

It would be mean and funny at the same time if while playing SoD2 we hear Lily talking over the radio...

"Hello, anyone out there? Does anybody hear me?"

What if SoD2 leads us to believe that Lily is alive, and we follow the trail only to find that it was a recording. The military was listening to and recording all radio frequencies in Trumbull Valley during the initial outbreak, and for some reason these recordings were being broadcasted over the air.

This is something I thought of a couple years back. It could be presented as a normal mission (your current radio operator picks up Lily's signal) and you're asked to investigate the "new" survivors. You do so only to discover the area is overrun with zeds.

After clearing them out and looking around you notice the base is similar to your own. Maybe the compound could have a few of SoD's facilities built up. There's also several non-zed bodies but they're to mangled or desiccated to identify. Eventually, you stumble upon the radio room and find Lily, the only recognizable corpse. Maybe she's slumped over the console or perhaps she's lying in a bed next to her work station.

In any case, it should be a somber moment.

Lily holds a special part in all our hearts. Regardless of her outcome, it would be good to give a nod to those we met along our way from sod1.

Mutations gotta come from somewhere. You don't go Feral in that standardised manner without some sort of template. So I see Blood Plague as an advanced form of Black Fever that's specialised in getting the disease out there.

Imagine that the disease needs a way to spread itself. So the zombie is created. But with infection rates slowing down (as everyone is turned or dead) and the disease having to wait longer to create "offspring", for want of an easier to understand word, it needs better methods of delivery. To survive it mutates and creates a specialised form of mutation that is designed solely to pass on the disease, making a faster and more agile zombie that infects and, probably, tries to leave the newly infected alive that it might pass on the disease more.

This is based on the idea that Bloaters and Screamers are situational mutations caused by damage to the body from different ways, Armoured are situational because they were wearing it when they died, and both Feral and Juggernauts are random mutations when the disease meets a compatible body type. We've seen the DNA mutating properties of the disease, so it makes sense it would evolve a specialised carrier to pass it on.

Another theory I was also thinking was... maybe this Blood Plague affects freaks too. If you watch the trailer again you will see that the screamer and Jugg's eyes are almost blood red, but not quite. What if zombies and freaks are all slowly turning into Blood Plague carriers?

From what we've seen in the trailer...
    - Normal zeds have yellow eyes.
    - The Feral has blue eyes.
    - The bloater has green eyes.
    - The Screamer & Jugg by this time already have almost red eyes.
    - Blood Plague zombies have fully glowing blood red eyes.

What if every zed and freak are slowly becoming Blood Plague carriers? and what if later into our playthroughs (similar to the difficulty progression in Breakdown levels) we could eventually both freaks and normal zeds carrying the blood plague? This could explain why in the trailer we see the screamer & jugg sharing the same "almost red" eyes. Maybe they are in the final stages of the Blood Plague mutation?

Imagine eventually having to deal with every zed and freak becoming carriers of the Blood Plague.... One bite from any zed would begin the countdown to death. Syringes would be the most valuable resource. Now that would make Breakdown level 99 look like child's play.

You forgot the part where she wakes up and smiles at you, because she's immortal to everything... except lupus apparently.

I think we will need to see what happens in SoD2 - We are lead to believe that there is a cure to the 'Blood Plague' - Now is this a cure for the 'Red Eye' Zeds or a cure for 'Apocalypse'?

If it’s a cure, I predict it reverses the infection of those who’ve been bitten but not yet turned. I don’t see zeds being cured. Once your a zombie, your a lost cause.

I also wonder if we will see enclaves and other random recruited NPC survivors injured and carrying the Blood Plague without us (the player) knowing? Accidentally recruiting an infected person and having them turn lol.

Do you guys remember the gameplay trailer where it shows them at the military base when it's being evacuated? I wonder if that will be the first mission or where you start off at. I can't wait to see how the blood plague works on the survivors. Hopefully ones that aren't any of my favorites lol

That would be agreat intro to the game. I wonder if it’s possible if some of the original survivors from SOD could have ended up at the base after evacuating Trumbal Valley.

Your adrenaline will get pumping because of all those zeds being around you. I'd try to loot some good guns if I had the time. But by looking at the video, I don' think you'd get much time. Some of them did have some good guns though.

That’s my thought’s too. Might be able to pick up a couple good guns at the beginning. Survivors on the first mao might be people who also escaped the military base.

Since there is 3 maps at launch, maybe that is 1 of 3 possible starting missions. I’d prefer the starting map was randomized.
