"Because I f**king can, that's why!"
I Love Howitzers.
I love it when the 13 Bang Bangs hit the target we call in. It's nice to reward them with a Fire For Effect
History on the Karl-Gerät Mortar
Wargaming makes games based on historical facts and are historically accurate to the best they can be.
Fascinating. Thanks Cejao!
Erm . . . "Death from Above" is the Airborne, not the cannon-cockers . . .
Field Artillery: Long Distance . . . the next-best thing to being there.
I was attached to the artillery for four years. The big guns, the 155mm cannons. @Cejao - Death From Above is the slogan of the 101st Airborne Division. Artillery is known as the King of Battle and my unit used the slogan "On Time, On Target".
@Rock33B - When I was with the 9th ID DIVARTY, our fire for effect was based on the octofoil* and the rounds were dropped in a huge circle with the ninth round hitting dead center for the finishing move.
I've got nothing but love for the Arty guys. Half my platoon was without NVG's for a few nights and when we needed illum they were Johnny on the spot. When we took Fallujah back in 04 during 76hrs of house to house fighting, it was Arty guys who took out some troubled buildings for us. One building in particular held up our column for a good ten or fifteen minutes, rpg fire and sniper fire kept us bogged down until the Arty guys turned it into a smoldering rubble filled crater for us.
Love me some cannon cockers.
